Whatever the state of the game right now the fact remains that it's still unique and that's why any of us play at all.
Say what you want but the fact is the game is moving, it's alive, the population may be dropping and there may be other games coming out but I don't think the game is "dying" because of these outside factors. Last I heard this game is making a profit, also there's plenty of funding and players coming from EVE, no chance of the population going down to nothing. Stop saying you're going to quit because for most of you that isn't true and even if it is don't tell me you won't come back once there's more content.
That being said I have a few recommendations, focus on releasing the content that was advertised and that we're all waiting for as soon as possible. I like the squad finder, great idea, some may not find it necessary but it's definitely useful, however the things like corporation roles, aggressive weapon balancing, unnecessary use of time and coding right now.
To those pushing for balancing, not all weapons are going to be equal, right now I see alot of assault rifles, mass drivers, forge guns etc. because that's what's useful. It's very difficult to have people using a huge variety of weapons on the field at once because this game isn't single player, can't just make everything over powered so NPCs don't really have a chance, if that were the case then you could just use whatever weapon you liked using the most but the problem is everyone uses guns differently, everyone plays differently, everyone customizes differently but with the goal in mind of making themselves more effective, taking everyone's behavior (not to mention dexterity and reaction speeds and general hand eye coordination) into account is just plain insane. People are going to use what works, there's no way around that.
Had to get that point out first, now for my recommendations: 1. Focus on getting the suits, weapons, and vehicles out first, I know a little about the graphic design process and making the artwork for something like this shouldn't be taking too long; working on the mechanics for them like rate of fire, damage, module slots, speed, should be routine at this point, its just math and coding. The thing I can imagine taking the longest amount of time is the 3D models and animations and I think alot of us will agree that it doesn't need to look that pretty right now, once they have it in their hands your customers will be happy. 2. Start working on PVE again, giving people something else to do besides shoot at each other might not attract too many more players but it will sure as hell keep them; I'd say the #1 cause of the population decrease is just frustration and rage quit, if you get your ass kicked too much the game just becomes punishing, no-one wants that, good to have something to fall back on. That can also apply to training grounds or private matches, a place where people are free to do whatever they want, could test stuff out, screw around with friends, blow off steam, who wouldn't benefit from that? Making a game difficult is ok, making it punishing will ruin it, give people a way out when it gets punishing.
For now we can manage with everything else going on in the game, the people playing are sticking around because they want to continue investing their time in hopes that it will mean something later on, releasing the necessary content will be satisfactory, coming up with new bonus content is not a good idea right now. Fancy furnishings mean nothing if you don't have a good foundation. |

But, at least fix the current vehicles, then gimme all which I have been deprived of. That's fair lol, still I don't know what would be better, balancing things now and THEN getting the content out or getting the content out first. I would think that the more stuff they have out, the more data they have to work with, if that makes any sense at all. I feel like if you balance everything now and then introduce a weapon that's very different it's going to shift that balance anyway, I don't know how to do it but I think we all want to avoid another flaylock incident :) |
